Nata come strada militare romana per consolidare il passo verso la Rezia, con la proiezione di Roma verso il confine renano la Via Claudia Augusta assunse un ruolo strategico al confine settentrionale della penisola italica. Un ruolo che si protrasse ben oltre la fine dell’Impero d’Occidente, giungendo fino all’età carolingia, quando la scarsa manutenzione e le vicissitudini politiche a cavallo delle Alpi mandarono in disuso alcuni tratti e ne modificarono altri.

In questo saggio, si ripercorre tutto il cammino della Via Claudia Augusta, partendo dalle origini (tecniche, struttura giuridica, amministrazione) del sistema stradale romano. Si analizza tutta la genesi ad opera di Druso Cesare e l'evoluzione della Via Claudia Augusta lungo i nove secoli che la videro protagonista della Storia, tanto che, ancora oggi, le principali vie di comunicazione attraverso le Alpi ricalcano l’antico tracciato romano, confermando la bontà e l’intuizione dei generali di Roma.

Breve Curriculum dell'autore:
Damiano Martorelli nasce a Feltre (BL), ma vive e studia sin dall’infanzia nelle due Province Autonome di Trento e Bolzano.
Ingegnere, storico, archeologo, è forte di una valida preparazione accademica, con un Master di II liv. in "Intelligence & ICT" conseguito, con lode, all'Università di Udine, un dottorato di ricerca in Material Science, Mechatronics and System Engineering conseguito presso l’Università di Trento in collaborazione con FBK-Fondazione Bruno Kessler, e due lauree magistrali con lode rispettivamente in Ingegneria ed Archeologia presso l'Università di Trento. Inoltre, dal 2004 ha la certificazione internazionale EFPA in ambito finanziario (www.efpa-italia.it), e più recentemente si è qualificato come allenatore di pallavolo FIPAV ed è istruttore e mental coach certificato CSEN/CONI.
Dopo aver ricoperto vari ruoli direzionali in diverse aziende, è ora titolare di un proprio studio di consulenza in ambito ingegneristico, archeologico e della formazione.
Inoltre, nell’ambito delle più generali tecniche archeometriche e di conservazione e valorizzazione del cultural heritage, rientrano alcune sue collaborazioni universitarie in qualità di Archeologo di I fascia, ai sensi del DM 244/2019, iscritto al n. 12725 dell'elenco nazionale presso il Ministero della Cultura, associato all'Associazione Nazionale Archeologi (ANA), e in possesso dei requisiti per l'esecuzione di "Indagini di Archeologia Preventiva" con emissione del Documento Finale ex D.Lgs 50/2016, art. 25. Inoltre, è membro di EAA, European Association of Archeologists.
Attualmente, è consulente scientifico e membro del Direttivo dell'Associazione di Rievocazione Storica Luporum Filii, Vicepresidente dell'Associazione Italiana del Georadar (www.grp-italia.it) e membro della Commissione Innovazione e della Commisisone Ingegneria Forense dell'Ordine degli Ingegneri di Trento.

Entstanden als römische Heerstraße zur Befestigung des Passes in Richtung Rätien, übernahm die Via Claudia Augusta mit der Projektion Roms in Richtung Rheingrenze eine strategische Rolle an der Nordgrenze der italienischen Halbinsel.Eine Rolle, die weit über das Ende des Weströmischen Reiches hinaus bis in die karolingische Zeit hinein andauerte, als schlechte Instandhaltung und politische Wechselfälle in den Alpen dazu führten, dass einige Abschnitte nicht mehr genutzt und andere verändert wurden.
In diesem Aufsatz zeichnen wir die gesamte Reise der Via Claudia Augusta nach, beginnend mit den Ursprüngen (technische, rechtliche Struktur, Verwaltung) des römischen Straßensystems. Die gesamte Entstehungsgeschichte von Drusus Caesar und die Entwicklung der Via Claudia Augusta werden im Laufe der neun Jahrhunderte analysiert, in denen sie der Protagonist der Geschichte war, so dass auch heute noch die wichtigsten Kommunikationswege über die Alpen der alten römischen Route folgen. Dies bestätigt die Güte und Intuition der römischen Generäle.

Kurzlebenslauf des Autors:
Damiano Martorelli wurde in Feltre (BL) geboren, lebt und studiert jedoch seit seiner Kindheit in den beiden autonomen Provinzen Trient und Bozen.
Als Ingenieur, Historiker und Archäologe verfügt er über eine gültige akademische Ausbildung mit einem Master-Abschluss der Stufe II. in „Intelligence & ICT“ mit Auszeichnung an der Universität Udine, einen Forschungsdoktortitel in Materialwissenschaft, Mechatronik und Systemtechnik an der Universität Trient in Zusammenarbeit mit der FBK-Fondazione Bruno Kessler und zwei Masterabschlüsse mit Auszeichnung in Ingenieurwesen und Archäologie an der Universität Trient. Darüber hinaus verfügt er seit 2004 über die internationale EFPA-Zertifizierung im Finanzsektor (www.efpa-italia.it), und vor kurzem hat er sich als FIPAV-Volleyballtrainer qualifiziert und ist ein CSEN/CONI-zertifizierter Ausbilder und Mentaltrainer.
Nachdem er verschiedene Führungspositionen in verschiedenen Unternehmen innehatte, besitzt er heute ein eigenes Beratungsunternehmen in den Bereichen Ingenieurwesen, Archäologie und Ausbildung.
Darüber hinaus sind im Rahmen der allgemeineren archäometrischen Techniken sowie der Erhaltung und Aufwertung des kulturellen Erbes einige seiner universitären Kooperationen als Archäologe der Stufe I gemäß Ministerialdekret 244/2019, eingetragen unter der Nr.12725 der nationalen Liste beim Kulturministerium, verbunden mit der National Association of Archaeologists (ANA) und im Besitz der Voraussetzungen für die Durchführung von „präventiven archäologischen Untersuchungen“ mit der Ausstellung des Abschlussdokuments gemäß Gesetzesdekret 50/ 2016, Kunst. 25. Darüber hinaus ist er Mitglied der EAA, der European Association of Archaeologists.
Derzeit ist er wissenschaftlicher Berater und Vorstandsmitglied der Historical Reenactment Association Luporum Filii, Vizepräsident der italienischen Georadar Association (www.grp-italia.it) und Mitglied der Innovationskommission und der Forensic Engineering Commission der Orden der Ingenieure von Trient.

Designed as a Roman military road to consolidate the passage towards Rhaetia, with the projection of Rome towards the Rhine border, the Via Claudia Augusta took on a strategic role on the northern border of the Italian peninsula. A role that continued well beyond the end of the Western Empire, reaching up to the Carolingian age, when poor maintenance and political vicissitudes across the Alps caused some sections to fall into disuse and modified others.
In this essay, the entire path of the Via Claudia Augusta is retraced, starting from the origins (techniques, legal structure, administration) of the Roman road system. The entire genesis by Drusus Caesar and the evolution of the Via Claudia Augusta over the nine centuries that saw it as a protagonist of History are analyzed, so much so that, even today, the main communication routes through the Alps follow the ancient Roman route, confirming the goodness and intuition of the generals of Rome.

Damiano Martorelli was born in Feltre (BL), but has lived and studied since childhood in the two Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano.

Furthermore, in the field of more general archaeometric techniques and conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage, some of his university collaborations as a First Level Archaeologist, pursuant to Ministerial Decree 244/2019, registered at no. 12725 of the national list at the Ministry of Culture, associated with the National Association of Archaeologists (ANA), and in possession of the requirements for carrying out "Preventive Archaeology Surveys" with the issuance of the Final Document pursuant to Legislative Decree 50/2016, art. 25. Furthermore, he is a member of EAA, the European Association of Archaeologists.
